The H.O.P.E course (Helping Overcome Problems Effectively) is a 6-week online course developed by Torbay and South Devon NHS Trust designed to help people to cope better with their long-term health conditions.

Over the six weeks of this course, you will work with trained facilitators to build your confidence and learn ways to help you better manage your long-term condition, including mental health issues such as anxiety and depression.

The programme helps you to focus on you as a person, and not as a long-term condition. It helps you to discover new strengths and rediscover old ones to keep yourself well. It also aims to boost your self-confidence and resilience, to help you cope better emotionally, psychologically and practically with your condition. This course is therapeutic, not therapy.

6 x 2hr weekly group sessions.

Our Managing Your Anger programme allows you to consider your emotions under your Anger, develop coping strategies, and allows you to discuss your own experiences. This isn’t about making anger disappear, but using anger in a healthy and controlled way. 

The course consists of 4 weekly 2 hour session each running from 2pm - 4pm

Venue: online via Zoom.

1 in 4 people in the UK will be diagnosed with depression in their lifetime (ONS).

This workshop looks at information and self-help techniques to help cope with depression, for yourself or when helping to support others. It also looks at where to go for further help. Depression is a constant feeling of low mood and this course will help you to explore why we may be experiencing these feelings, and what coping techniques can be used to help you lift our mood.

This online workshop is a one-off, 2-hour session.

Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can be a debilitating condition that can make everyday life difficult and challenging.

This 4-week course will assist you in understanding and managing (OCD) and will cover various forms, signs and symptoms people experience. Intrusive thoughts and compulsive tasks can sometimes be very difficult to talk to others about. During this course we will encourage you to feel safe to share your concerns and to feel heard.

The course will look at the cycle of OCD and how this can be broken to enable you to live a less restricting life by taking small, controlled steps to face your fears. We will also discuss the many theories on the causes and treatments.

This course is facilitated by a trainer with this condition who has experience of self-management.
