Bouldering is a fantastic way to boost your wellbeing, helping you get active, build confidence, and feel more connected to yourself and others. Whether you’re climbing for the first time or looking for a new way to support your mental health, our BeWell Bouldering Group offers a fun and welcoming space to explore something new.

This group provides a supportive environment to enjoy the physical and mental benefits of climbing together. You’ll start with a free coaching session in Week 1, followed by weekly social climbs, free refreshments, and bimonthly wellbeing workshops designed to help you feel stronger, both on and off the wall.

No experience is needed, just bring your enthusiasm and a sense of adventure! All equipment is provided by The Climbing Hangar.

This session is open to everyone in Devon over the age of 18.

When: Fridays, 11am–1pm

We also have funding available to contribute towards travel expenses. If transport costs are a barrier, please speak to us about your travel plans before attending so we can discuss how this support scheme may help.

How to join this weekly wellbeing group:
In order to attend this wellbeing group you will need to have registered on the BeWell portal and enrolled for the BeWell Bouldering group. Before attending your first session you will also need to complete our Pre-Course Wellbeing Survey and also The Climbing Hangars Health and Safety Waiver. 

How to get there:

Driving: Free onsite parking is available at The Climbing Hangar.
Public transport: Bus C from Exeter city centre stops close to the venue, and Marsh Barton Train Station is just a short walk away. You can also use journey planning apps or websites such as Citymapper or Google Maps to find the best route for you.
Walking/Cycling: The centre is easily accessible via local footpaths and cycle routes.

Join us each week for a relaxed, in-person wellbeing group centred around creativity, conversation, and community. This welcoming space invites you to get crafty, whether that means trying out one of our guided activities, bringing along your own project, or simply enjoying a cuppa while chatting with others.

You’re free to take part in whatever way feels right for you. Dive into a creative task, work on a puzzle, play a game, or just enjoy the company. Crafting together offers a gentle, grounding way to connect with people who understand, blending support with plenty of fun and light-hearted moments. This group is open to anyone in Devon aged 18 and over.

You can enrol into the group once registered on this site by clicking on the group name above or click here , but pre-enrolment is not required to attend so you can just turn up on the day and we can register you there!

How to get there:

Driving: The car parks closest to the Quay such as Cathedral & Quay Car Park are pay and display. Explore other nearby car parks a short walk away from the Quay here.

Public transport: You can use journey planning apps or website like Citymapper or Google Maps to find the best route for you.

Walking: The walk from Exeter Central Station to the Quay takes around 15-20 minutes. Head south-west from the station, following signs for the Quay or the River Exe. You can also use Google Maps or Citymapper for walking directions.

Our weekly Exeter Wellbeing Walk offers a gentle, accessible route while taking in the sights of the historic quay. The route follows the river downstream into the Riverside Valley Park, stopping at the Double Locks for a coffee break, before returning via the canal path. Along the way, you’ll have the chance to chat, connect with others, and enjoy a relaxing, supportive environment.

Walk Details:

When: Weekly on Wednesdays. 

Meet at 10.45 am. Depart: 11.00 am. Finishes: approx. 12.30pm*

Where?The walk starts and ends at the X Centre, our new Step One HQ, which can be found on Commercial Road, Exeter, EX2 4AD.

Walk Difficulty: Easy (flat, with only a few minor inclines and declines. Paved paths and lowered curbs at crossing points). Toilet facilities and refreshment outlets available on the route.

Distance: Approx 3 miles

If you come along for a walk with us it will also give you the opportunity to have a chat about how you are feeling, and to discuss our range of wellbeing groups, courses, workshops and activities provided by BeWell@StepOne.

Walk Route:

Exeter Wellbeing Walk

Our  weekly Men’s Wellbeing Walk is specifically aimed at men to help support their mental health and wellbeing. The Walk, held in association with Bay WalksRamblers Wellbeing Walks and Active Devon, runs every Tuesday morning, starting from The Community Hut behind St Paul’s Church in Preston, Paignton (behind St Pauls Church, accessible at the end of Locarno Avenue). The route explores Hollicombe Park, Preston, and Paignton Seafront before returning to Paignton Harbour, providing a mix of green spaces and coastal views.

When: Every Tuesday, meet 10.15am ,  Depart for walk at 10.30am*

Please note: On the 16th Dec we host our BeWell Christmas Party at the hut, and there will be no walk on this date, however all walkers are very welcome to join the party. There will be no further walks in 2025. The next walk will be January 6th 2026. 

Where: Starting and ending from The Community Hut, behind St Paul’s Church (accessible at the end of Locarno Avenue) Preston, Paignton, TQ3 2DH

Length: Roughly 1 hr 30 mins (but can be longer depending on group pace and preferences) .

Tuesday Peer Support Group

A relaxed, creative space to connect, unwind, and explore your wellbeing together.

This weekly in-person peer support group offers a warm, welcoming environment where you can get creative, enjoy a cuppa, and spend time with others who understand the challenges of looking after your mental health. Whether you love crafting, want to try something new, or simply feel like having a friendly chat, you’re invited to join in at whatever pace feels right for you.

Each session centres around gentle craft activities, perfect for focusing the mind, easing stress, and encouraging self-expression, but you’re equally welcome to bring your own project or simply enjoy the company. The group blends connection, creativity, and light-hearted fun, creating a supportive space where shared experience becomes a source of strength.

Open to anyone in Devon aged 18 and over, the group is grounded in peer support values: choice, voice, and mutual respect. It’s a place where you can show up as you are, meet others with lived experience, and build confidence in a friendly community setting.

The BeWell Toolbox is a weekly in-person workshop designed to provide practical self-help and self-management tools to support mental health and wellbeing.

Each week a different topic or ‘tool’ will be covered and discussed, including strategies that can help reduce the impact of depression and anxiety, offering an insight into an array of coping strategies that can help improve and maintain our wellbeing. We aim to add more tools to your personal wellbeing 'toolbox', and to help keep any skills you may already have ‘well oiled’ so they are at hand and ready to use when you most need them. The group also offers the well-known benefits of peer support, and is a great way to increase connection with others. We’re excited to highlight our Wellbeing Walking Group in Torquay, held fortnightly and open to all. Starting from the historic Spanish Barn—linked to the era of the Spanish Armada—this scenic walk takes in stunning views of the harbour with its 1,000 berths, enjoyed from a bird’s eye perspective along the pier. The route also includes sights like The Princess Theatre, which opened in the early 1960s, and The Pavilion, a Grade II listed building rich in cultural and historical significance.

Increasing our activity levels and connecting with others can be a key strategy in lifting mood and reducing anxiety. Joining a walking group can be a wonderful way to start—one step at a time!

Walk Details:

Where?: The walk Starts at Spanish Barn, Torre Abbey, The King's Drive, Torquay, TQ2 5JE.   We meet in front of it's main doors.

When: The first walk of 2026 will be on the 16th of January and fortnightly thereafter.

We are delighted to introduce to you our free fortnightly Wellbeing Walking Group in Torquay. On route we will be taking in the sights, sounds and smells of Babbacombe and St Marychurch, which includes a stroll through Tessier Gardens, St Marychurch Precinct and along the beautiful Babbacombe Downs.
